I finished coloring the Mucha style illustration. I'm afraid the scan doesn't do it justice, and it looks much better in real life. I think thats because I don't have a high quality scanner. I'm hoping to look around and find a better scanner, and perhaps I'll replace this file once I've found it. I hope everyone enjoys this! It was done in marker and colored pencils.

Jennifer, this is great work, I love it. It is strong, the theme is absolutely well chosen for the style, the lines are harmonic and the coloration is beautiful. I´m looking forward to seeing it in a better scan but I love it the way it is now, knowing that the original looks better.
You got the proportions remakably right and the same can be said about posture. Great.
There a a few small issues with the light " again" I know I am nagging but there are, and I know that you have the talent to better yourself on that point
As it is, it would absolutely pass through the examinations for being exhibited in one of the "Salon" exhibitions of Mucha´s days.
Like it!!!!

It amuses me that some believe that truly good drawings and paintings look like photography and truly good photography looks like it was drawn... Is the pinnacle of art imitation? Realism is beautiful, but imagination is better.

The reason why I am a bit on my toes regarding light is, that the perception and cognition of light has been a major issue in my studies on cognitive psychology.
The second reason for commenting on it is that I really hold you dearly and that you have the talent.
So, some time when you have some spare time for your studies I would advise you to have a look at
Leontev - Activity Theory ( Russian Psychologist )
Gibson - Ecological Theory ( US Psychologist )
and at what they have to say about human beings evolutionary development and perception as well as cognition. Both are based on the dialectics between the evolution of the being, being influenced by it´s environment, and the environment being influenced by the being itself.
Both theories include really great knowlege about human perception, and especially about human perception of LIGHT. I belief that many of the later artists who are really great at making use of knowledge about those issues have studied either Leontev, Gibson, or one of the people who write and research along the parametres of one of these theories.
I´d be glad to help you find material that cut´s right to the chase to spare you the reading of tos of material that is irrelevant to your work.
Another thing: You do not have to tell me that you appreciate what I do, you do tell it often enough, but it sure makes me happy to hear it once in a while.
